(St. Louis – May 8, 2010)
It looks like the San Jose Sharks have finally decided to live up to the hype. For the past three seasons, they have been picked as the best team in the Western Conference and some even picked them to win the Stanley Cup and they just punched their tickets for the Western Conference Finals.
With guys like Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, Dany Heatley and Rob Blake on the roster the Sharks have the veteran talent to lead the way for some of their younger stars. Their vetran goalie Evgeni Nabokov, may be getting old but he’s playing great. He posted the 10th best save percentage in the league during the regular season. Let’s not forget about a younger guy who’s making a name for himself out in the shark tank, Joe Pavelski. At the age of 25, Pavelski has carried his share of the load scoring 25 goals in the regular season and playing a major role in the series against Detroit. More than that, he helped lead team USA to the silver in Vancouver.
Elsewhere on the Ice
After sending the Capitals home early, the Canadians have turned their focus to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Many thought the Pens would make quick work of the Habs, but that hasn’t been the case. They are leading the series 3-2 right now and have a chance to eliminate them tomorrow night, but I’d bet the Canadians won’t go down without a fight.
In Chicacgo, the Blackhawks are one game away from heading to the conference finals. The Canucks trail in the series and game 6 will be in Vancouver tonight. I think both of these teams are strong, but the Blackhawks just have a little too much and I think that will set stage for a great conference final.
